Marble bathrooms: how to choose wallcoverings and floors for a luxury style

Marble is the perfect choice for bathrooms because it creates interesting contrasts with other materials, allowing it to be used in the creation of bathroom furniture such as washbasins, bathtubs, or showers.

Material par excellence for luxury bathrooms and wellness spaces, marble has always distinguished itself for its strong aesthetic appeal and elegance, as well as its intrinsic features: durability, easy maintenance, and good humidity resistance.

Modern marble bathrooms: how to match style and function

Marble has always been a fashionable material in interior design and architecture, because it has met various style needs over the years. From classic bathrooms to modern ones, marble has proven itself for its timeless beauty.

In addition to smooth marble coverings, new marble novelties have popped up in recent years. Among them are three-dimensional marble coverings for bathroom interiors that add ultimate contemporary 3D patterns to the stunning veins and texture of marble.

In this bathroom, the Plissé 3D bathroom marble covering combines a geometric texture with the jade green hues of the Jadore quartzite.

The organic texture of Tropico – inspired by the tropical leaves – adds a modern accent to a vintage bathroom.

How to choose the right marble color for the bathroom

Choosing the marble color for the bathroom is always a matter of personal taste. You can opt for a total-white marble bathroom as Grupo Arquitectura did in the Casa Toscan interior design project. Here, our Traccia divider is in white marble Bianco Cotone.

However, you can choose a white marble with golden veins or beige stones to add warmth and coziness to the space. Among these marbles are Botticino Vaniglia, Estremoz, Palissandro Brown, or Calacatta, to name just a few.

If you long for a bolder touch, you can go for a dark marble such as Nero Marquinia or Gris St Pierre to conceive a black marble bathroom. It’s the case of the en-suite bathroom of the King David Tower apartment by Studio D73.

Marble for showers: matched walls, shower trays, and shelves

In the Hotel Jungbrunn’s “Juniorsuites Vilsalpsee”, the en-suite marble bathroom stands out for its wellbeing and textured materials. For this project, Lithos Design provided the Tropico marble bathroom tiles in Pierre Bleue and designed two washbasins in the same material.

All the matched marble elements tailor an enchanting natural aesthetic with the wooden furnishing in the room. The Lithos Design team and the hotel’s in-house interior design team worked together to design two washbasins in Pierre Bleue matched to the veins and color hues of the shower marble wallcovering.

The result is a marble bathroom that acts almost like a private spa, where the 3D marble wall is the queen of the room.

Marble and humidity: myths to dispel and correct treatments

For bathrooms, marble is more suitable than natural stone because it is less porous. With waterproof treatments, marble can be the choice for bathrooms because it is a hard and long-lasting material. If used in showers, marble wallcoverings should be waterproofed more often than usual.

In addition to these treatments, it is recommended to take care of marble bathroom coverings to preserve their beauty; specific detergents with neutral pH are the best choice for these coverings as well as marble showers.

Marble bathroom sink: design coordinated with the shower

The Lithos Design team is always available to consult architects and interior designers on how to finish their interior design projects. Besides marble wallcoverings and floors, the team can support you in bathroom furnishing design in continuity with the marble wall or floor.

In the Jungbrunn Hotel project, the Lithos Design team worked with the hotel’s in-house interior design team to design washbasins in the same marble as the shower wall. In this way, they ensured continuity of marble tones and veins with the custom washbasins.

That’s why the Jungbrunn Hotel case is an example of how to create a unique style and material matches among the different decorative elements and the bathroom furnishing.
