Raffaello Galiotto. Digital design and stone materiality

Lithos Design, in partnership with Ferrara University Faculty of Architecture, presents the volume “Raffaello Galiotto. Digital design and stone materiality” dedicated to the designer from Vicenza and his work in the field of stone design.

“This reflection is inspired by the design potential of stone surfaces and it follows a path from wall coverings, through continual metamorphoses, to formalised complex structural elements for architectural spaces. The work of Raffaello Galiotto, in partnership with the Vicenza company Lithos Design, follows this experimental path and contains some new revelations.” (Veronica Dal Buono, p. 9).

The story of Raffaello Galiotto’s journey in the field of stone design and his fortunate meeting with Lithos Design are the focus of the volume by Veronica Dal Buono, a researcher at Ferrara University Faculty of Architecture, which opens the ‘Lithos’ Series for the Librìa publishing house, now in its fifth volume, on the subject of Stone Design.

The author investigates the designer’s creative path through essays and interviews and, especially, through his special relationship with stone, which he calls “an extraordinary, unique material, the matrix of absolute masterpieces,” to which design must offer “obsequious respect”. Galiotto’s path is one of research and powerful innovation, carried out in complete harmony with this company from Vicenza, which has allowed him to explore and develop the combination of Stone Design and technology.

The work not only offers an analysis of his journey through style, but focuses on extremely current themes that are strictly linked to the value of design for company competitiveness, indicating the need for a greater dialogue between industry, the design world and the world of research, through interaction with university institutions.
