An ambitious work where the typical "marble is luxury" concept and the very high technical skills required to translate it into a true project find their maximum expression.

DESCRIPTION

The project for this highly ambitious hotel represents a singular case in the history of Lithos Design Source. Despite the fact that the principal wanted to create a facility with traditional elegance, and their specifications had expressly excluded design elements from the Lithos Design Primes line, the company was nonetheless preferred to others due to its technical cutting-edge expertise in marble and stone processing, and therefore appointed to produce every single marble item envisaged in the project. The owners therefore commissioned Lithos Design Source to produce an extensive and complex range of architectural elements and bespoke marble claddings, a service which we usually offer to complement our collections. In this specific case, the hall constituted a complex and prestigious challenge, with its floor, the staircase, the columns and the balustrade, followed by the bathrooms in the presidential and junior suites, and the fitness and spa area.

The job involved several compelling challenges, and our partnership with the designers began with our participation on-site in the metric survey, to offer our consultancy before producing the marble lements and guarantee an end product that would accommodate the superior standards of luxury required. The surveying activities showed there were a series of considerable technical issues with the implementation of the designs, especially for the massive columns which were to be clad with extra-thick elements, the long and articulated handrails and the colossal steps that were to be almost entirely joint-free in the hall. The engineering department of our Source team was directly in charge of designing and submitting for site management approval several technical solutions to solve these issues, both from the construction point of view as well as regards packaging, transportation and installation, and was subsequently in charge of implementing the final designs.

A further complex feature, which was solved thanks to our international contacts in the world of raw material suppliers, involved the sourcing of the materials requested by the principal, and in particular the star of the entire design, gris pulpis marble, which is exclusive for its minimalist elegant essence and because it is extracted in just a single quarry in the world. It was imperative that we chose carefully various quality selections of this natural and changing material, each of the huge quantities specified and, depending on the intended use in the communal area or on the floors, taking into account production planning, delivery and installation. The first choice was obviously intended for the hall; construction of the floor required a painstaking study of the vein patterns and characteristic features of the selected blocks, to achieve the installation of large slabs in an open book layout to create a symmetrical horizontal or vertical match depending on the position within the room, making for an artistic and harmonious installation design.

Installation therefore required further special focus. To make sure the thorough laying plan for every single element was observed without error or delay, despite the accurate labelling and numbering of every finished piece and the very detailed assembly instructions, we agreed with site management that we would send one of our highly skilled technical supervisors to support the marble layers on-site from start to finish.

This project was thus both atypical and highly representative for us, completed with the utmost satisfaction: both ours and that of the principal.
